Brooklyn, NY – The ASA Avengers men's basketball team played their first home game of the 2018-19 season on November 20th against Prestige Prep.
The Avengers started off slowly in the first half. They focused on shooting three's and didn't have the proper intensity on the defensive ends and the boards. They also experimented with a different starting line-up. However, once they started moving the ball better, the Avengers quickly blew the game wide open. They also made several defensive stops that led to transition baskets. By the end of the first half, the Avengers were up 46-20.
With the lead, the Avengers were able to play multiple players off the bench including players that did not get much minutes in the season so far. Every player on the team was able to score. In the end, the reigning NJCAA Region XV Champions faced a young prestige team and showed their seniority winning 92-57. The top three scorers for ASA was Arshen with 15, Jahmier with 14, and Cesar with 13.
"The defense tonight was very good, which was expected of the group," said men's basketball head coach Devonne Martinez. "Today, the ASA Avengers men's basketball team was very unselfish."
The Avengers tonight played this game as a preparation for after the Thanksgiving break where they will look to play against Division I JUCO-level talent such as College of Central Florida and Baltimore City Community College over at the Monroe College Invitational from November 29th to November 30th.
