Cranford, NJ-----The ASA College men's basketball team is 1-0 in 2013 with a win tonight at Union County College. The Avengers improve to 11-3. It was their first game back from the Holidays.
In a game where every Avenger saw minutes, ASA was always in control from the tip-off. ASA would lead by as many as 13 in the first half, and went into halftime with the nine point advantage.
After maintaining a comfortable lead close to halfway through the second half, Union would not give up their home-court advatage too easily going on a 10-0 run to take the two point lead with 12:40 to go in the contest. ASA would counter with a 10-0 run of their own to take the 56-46 lead with 9:39 remaining. The Avengers would go up as many as sixteen points on a showtime alley-oop dunk from sophomore Rysheen Dorn to sophomore Eian Davis.
Dorn would lead ASA with fifteen points including a perfect 5-5 from the charity stripe. Sophomore forward Victor Ljuljdjuraj added fourteen points to go along with fifteen rebounds for the solid double-double. Ljuljdjuraj also recorded four blocked shots on the evening. Sophomore guard Daquan Brickhouse also reached double-figures in scoring with 12.
ASA shot 46% from the field to Union's 34%. The Avengers also shot 66% from the free-throw line to the Owls' dismal 52%.
The Avengers will return to New Jersey on Thursday, Janury 10th, at Essex CC. Tip-off is scheduled for 7pm following the women's game.
