Brooklyn, NY– The ASA Brooklyn Avengers baseball team played a series of matches against regional rivals Monroe Mustangs – two doubleheaders on Tuesday April 23rdand two doubleheaders on Wednesday April 24th.
With injuries to some of the Avengers main pitchers, the team decided to use this as an opportunity to explore a myriad of pitchers on the team. In total, the team played 11 different pitchers over the course of 4 games against Monroe to different degrees of success, some of whom that hasn't played a game yet.
In the first game of the double-header on Tuesday, the Avengers were evenly tied with the Mustangs in the 4thinning. In the 5th, some crucial calls did not go the way of the Avengers and took the energy out of the Avengers. Similar to the 1stgame on Tuesday, the Avengers opened the game with momentum in the 1stgame on Wednesday. With a second shorter game in the double-header that ended in the 7thinning, on both days, the Avengers used each game to explore a variety of different line-ups. In total, over the course of the two days, 9 different Avengers scored a run. Marlon Pertuz scored the most runs for the Avengers over the course of the two days with 3.
With the Region XV 2019 baseball championship series against the Monroe Mustangs starting Wednesday May 1s 2019, the Avengers hoped to use these games as preparation for the series.
